Have you ever wanted to find out what hosting company a website is using?
Sometimes it’s due to a spam issue or someone infringing on your content. When direct contact doesn’t work, contacting the hosting company can result in the site getting shut down or at least address the issue.
Of course that’s not the only reason to you might want to check to see whose hosting a site. It may be because you’re curious to see what company a competitor or peer is using.
While finding out who owns a site can be fairly easy doing a “Whois” search, finding the web host can be a challenge. That’s why I was happy to find the site, WhoIsHostingThis.com.
Just enter in the domain name and you’ll instantly get the name of the hosting company. I tried it on a few of my sites and got the correct answer each time. Give it a spin.
2016 Update: Michele Smarty forwarded me a link to her tool that does a bit more and is more current. Check it out here: http://www.toolsiseek.com/get-dns-records/
