As I was finishing up outlining this blog post, I realized that I’m sitting in the same Starbucks in Houston, TX where I launched my first online business just over 10 years ago. A return to the scene which seems fitting for the launch of a new blog.
Man on the Move
It’s been a year of change for yours truly. In February, after eight years in Wimberley, I left the hill country for Dallas. If you’re from Texas, you probably think I’m in insane. If not, let’s just say that migration patterns around Wimberley usually involve people escaping Houston or Dallas to live in a beautiful area surrounded by nature.
But it was time for a change and Dallas looked promising. Part of me was missing the big city. And really missing things like good restaurants. With the exception of my buddy Bruce Collie’s place, Brewster’s, Wimberley isn’t exactly loaded with culinary delights. Now, I can get my sushi or Indian food fix without packing a change of clothes for the trip.
Part of the reason for my move was because my work with CEO Space brought me here. Lisa Coltman and I were handling club president duties for both Austin & Dallas. Handling one city is a full-time gig. Covering one of the largest markets in the country when you live four and a half hours away is demented.
In the end, though, being a club president wasn’t for me. I still love the CEO Space organization but I’m glad to be back to being an ordinary member.
What would you do if you have to rebuild your Internet Marketing business from scratch?
That’s a hypothetical that I’ve been asked in dozens of interviews and have seen people launch entire products around the question. Well, this time I had to answer the question for myself and this time it wasn’t a drill.
Quite often the first step to figuring out what you want is to determine what you don’t want.
One thing was for certain, I wasn’t going to create another ‘How to Make Money Online” ebook. Been there, done that. And besides, when the guy working the late shift at 7/11 is selling a “How I made my first million on Clickbank” ebook, the market is probably a bit saturated.
The truth is that I was bored with just talking about affiliate & Internet marketing. It was all very exciting when I was first learning and teaching it but these days I’m more interested in social media and helping business owners with successful brick & mortar businesses and practices promote & sometimes market online.
Plus I wanted to discuss things outside of Internet marketing. So my long-time blog, Ecommerce Confidential didn’t seem like the right place for that.
Three Blogs are Better Than One
I don’t plan to abandon Ecommerce Confidential. In fact, I’ve got big plans for that site and it involves you, too, so stay tuned. But I needed a place where we could talk about a variety of topics so I spent sixteen bucks on a logo and put Pierre, my trusty webmaster, to work building this site.
I think Pierre did a great job. What do you think of the look?
But I didn’t stop with this new blog. I had Pierre working overtime because I also decided to re-launch MeetAndGrowRich.com, the site based on my best-seller with Joe Vitale on mastermind groups.
Okay, I know what you’re thinking. Bill, I think you’ve posted a grand total of three times this year on Ecommerce Confidential. So let me get this straight… you’re going to have three blogs? Who’s going to do the actual blogging?
Good question. And the answer? We are.
This site will be written by me. The primary focus will be on social media, networking and whatever else happens to come up. It’s interactive, though. I want your comments and feedback, too. You can always leave a comment below.
Then there’s MeetAndGrowRich.com. That site is focused on one topic: Mastermind Groups. It’ll feature articles by Joe and I with lots of input from and interviews with successful people talking about how they use mastermind groups to further their success.
With Ecommerce Confidential, I’m going to recruit some sharp cookies to bring you something I think we’ve needed for some time: a true Ecommerce News Magazine with articles, reviews and news from the Internet marketing world.
Are you a sharp cookie? (Note to self, research origin of term “sharp cookie”).
Seriously, if you know your stuff when it comes to a particular Internet marketing topic and would like to do a guest post or be a regular columnist with Ecommerce Confidential, let’s talk. There’s no salary involved but it could be great exposure and you will be able to link back to your own blog or site. You can reach me via the contact page above.
Before I go
As I mentioned, the primary theme of this blog will be social media and networking. That’s the primary focus of my consulting business. If you’re an entrepreneur and need help setting up or maintaining a blog, Twitter account, Facebook page, YouTube channel or other social media channel, let’s talk. I’ll have more details and a menu of services up shortly for you. In the meantime, you can reach me via the Contact page.
Lots more to come in this space but for now I want to say thanks for stopping by. And be sure and leave a comment to let me know what transitions you’re business is going through this year.
